Department Overview

Bain's Business Development (BD) team leads development of the Bain Alliance Ecosystem (BAE), a curated network of partnerships that helps Bain clients and teams get better results faster. The BD team defines the firm's repeatable model for partnership development and delivery, infusing the model with best practices distilled from all business development activity at Bain. The BD team advises and supports partnership development and delivery by practice, solution and product teams. The BD team leads development and delivery of strategic partnerships with potential to transform Bain's offering across multiple practices, solutions and/or products.

Position Summary

The Business Development Manager, Planning and Program Management, manages development and delivery of the firm's strategic partnerships in the Planning and Program Management domain. This role supports our practice, solution and product leaders and teams in the use of third party planning and program management capabilities to differentiate Bain's offering and services. This role leads deployment of planning and program management partnerships with Bain clients and teams, as part of Bain's solutions. Last but not least, the Business Development Manager plays a leadership role as part of a team dedicated to achieving full potential of Bain's strategic partnerships in the planning and program management domain. The team's success is defined by (1) integration of relevant third party planning and program capabilities in Bain's practices, solutions and products and (2) penetration of embedded third party planning and program capabilities in addressable Bain case work. This individual should plan on 20-30% travel, including some international travel.

Essential Functions

* Develop new partnerships required to execute Bain solution and product development priorities in scope
* Advise solution and product teams on build vs. buy vs. partner decisions, solution architecture and MVP development
* Support execution of joint product development initiatives with selected partners
* Support solution, product and case teams in joint client pilot sourcing and execution

* Scale existing partnerships in scope for maximum client and commercial impact
* Own end-to-end capability integration (e.g., Services & APIs, joint IP development)
* Lead execution of key full potential initiatives
* Manage and continuously improve partnership governance and management processes
* Identify and pursue ongoing joint IP development opportunities (e.g., joint publications, Bain Certified assets, custom technology, etc.)
* Support execution of Bain's third party risk management policies and processes

* Lead successful delivery of assigned partnerships in Bain case work
* Advise and support Bain teams as domain and technical expert in assigned partnerships
* Become the expert on the \"what, why and how\" of integrating Alliance Partners into Bain client service model
* Ensure swift and complete knowledge transfer to front-line teams collaborating with Alliance Partners

* Lead alliance partner teams to successful collaboration with Bain clients and teams
* Provide advice and coaching to joint teams, as projects are scoped and delivered
* Proactively identify and resolve client-specific issues, in collaboration with joint client teams

* Build network of committed Bain stakeholders and alliance partner executives
* Develop productive working relationships with key Bain stakeholders and alliance partner executives
* Diplomatically address and course-correct partnership concerns with Alliance executive team and Bain stakeholders, as necessary

* Play a leadership role as part of a business development team dedicated to assigned partnership portfolio
* Strike the right balance and sustainable pace: prioritize activity, match demand to resources
* Provide daily management and direction to assigned staff
* Contribute to and be accountable for team members' professional development through coaching and performance feedback
* Cultivate strong collaboration and teamwork across team and group
* Coach team to adopt a strong service orientation in everything they do: create promoters
* Continually lead and develop team members to ensure high quality results and processes
* Inspire and lead by example

* Proactively contributes to Business Development program assets and repeatable model improvements



* Bachelor's degree
* 7+ years work experience
* Strategic, entrepreneurial thinker - able to innovate and develop new products & services that leverage unique strengths of our Alliance Partners and meet the needs of our Bain clients and employees
* Able to quickly understand diverse business issues and design credible solutions

* Creative negotiator - comfortable working with senior executives to identify compelling win/win business opportunities; able to manage risk/reward across new and evolving business initiatives
* Exceptional communicator - excellent written and verbal communication skills, able to build excitement and support for new ideas and ways of working
* Successful relationship manager - Able to understand diverse motivations and influences and identify ways to build win/win partnerships
* Comfortable bringing multiple parties to a consensus solution

* Strong collaborator - able to build internal consensus with Bain partners, practice and product leaders in a matrix structure

* At least 3 years of Bain or similar management consulting experience
* Partnership management experience - previous experience leading partnerships
* Experience in planning and program management domain
