* Communicate company, department, and job specific information to associates. * Develop adequate scheduling to balance customer volume with associate needs. * Train and develop associates on performance of their job and participate in the performance appraisal process. * Adhere to all local, state, and federal health and civil code regulations. * Comply with all state, county and local weights and measures laws and labeling requirements. * Create an environment that enables customers to feel welcome, important and appreciated by answering questions regarding products sold within the department and throughout the store. * Understand the basic methods of preparations for all seafood department products; respond to questions, and make product suggestions. * Offer product samples to help customers discover new items. * Inform customers of meat/seafood specials. * Promote sales through intercom announcements. * Understand the store's layout and be able to locate products. * Stay current with present, future, seasonal and special ads. * Monitor and control expenses for the department. * Note any discrepancies inventory/stocking conditions. * Familiarity and compliance with all country of origin labeling and regulations. * Plan, organize and supervise the inventory process. * Train department associates on inventory/stocking and Computer Assisted Ordering. * Ensure proper temperatures in cases and coolers are maintained. * Observe scheduled shift operating hours. * Develop adequate scheduling to balance customer volume with associate needs. * Condition all products in assigned sections in accordance with company policy. * Order products and supplies based on department needs. * Ensure that all current merchandising, customer service, labor control, expense and supply controls, loss prevention, maintenance, safety, food safety, associate and customer engagement rules are being followed. * Reinforce safety programs by complying with safety procedures and identify unsafe conditions and notify store management. * Practice preventive maintenance by properly inspecting equipment and notify appropriate department or store manager of any items in need of repair. * Notify management of customer or employee accidents. * Report all safety risks, or issues, and illegal activity, including: robbery, theft or fraud. * Must be able to perform the essential functions of this position with or without reasonable accommodation.
Minimum Position Qualifications:
* Effective communication skills * Current food handlers permit once employed * Knowledge of basic math: counting, addition, and subtraction * Must be 18 or older * Ability to handle stressful situations * Possess adequate knife handling skills
Desired Previous Job Experience:
* High school diploma or equivalent * Second language: speaking, reading and/or writing * Management experience preferred
